The Pera Rocha pear (Pyrus communis L.) is one of the most popular pears in Portugal. It is a predominantly small pear with a predominantly yellow skin covered in brown patches and spots. Ideal for eating, it is not too firm, juicy, and sweet. It tastes good at room temperature, but also makes a refreshing snack straight from the refrigerator, where it should be stored.
The cultivation of this special pear was first described in Portugal in 1836. Grown above Lisbon, from Sintra to Leiria, the pear gets its distinctive aroma from the many hours of sunshine and the influence of the nearby Atlantic Ocean. This unique microclimate gives rise to a truly special pear.
