Black Iberian pig ham / Varanegra / Presunto porco preto quarters - 900-1000g is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
This piece of Porco Preto de Campo ham represents true top-tier Portuguese quality. Made from the leg of free-range black pigs and carefully matured for many months, this presunto develops an intense yet balanced aroma.
The meat is characterized by fine, ruby-red marbling and a delicate, slightly melting fat structure. This creates a particularly succulent mouthfeel and a distinctive, aromatic flavor with a pleasant depth.
After its 24-month maturation, the piece is deboned and shaped into practical portions – ideal for easy enjoyment at home, for slicing, or for antipasti platters.
This is a generous piece of ham, perfect for multiple moments of indulgence – whether for special occasions, sharing with guests, or slicing fresh bit by bit. When kept as a whole piece, the ham remains aromatic for longer and develops its full flavor much better than pre-sliced products.
The special feature: Porco Preto pigs grow up in the wild in the Alentejo region, feeding on acorns, herbs, and grasses. This natural lifestyle and slow growth result in particularly aromatic meat with a high proportion of valuable fatty acids.
Combined with traditional craftsmanship and a long maturation period, the result is a ham that is significantly more complex, tender, and high-quality than conventional products – a true piece of Portuguese culinary culture.
How to enjoy it properly:
It is best to cut the presunto into wafer-thin slices and let it reach room temperature for about 10–15 minutes before serving – this allows the aroma to unfold optimally. It pairs classically and excellently with fresh bread, olives, and a glass of red wine. Even enjoyed on its own, the quality of this special ham is best showcased.
