Tonka beans are very hard and are best grated with a nutmeg grater or boiled 1-2 beans with a liter of milk for about 10 minutes and left to soak overnight.
They are used in desserts, cream, milk or ice cream dishes.
Origin:
Tonka beans are harvested from a tree (Dipteryx odorata) in Brazil. This tree can reach an impressive height of 25-30 meters. After the beautiful, often purple flowers, it develops large drupes in which the almond-shaped seeds are embedded. When dried, this seed is then called a tonka bean. Tonka beans are used as a spice and only sparingly.
