A tropical delight with melt-in-the-mouth flesh and an unmistakable aroma!
The mangosteen is considered one of the most exquisite tropical fruits. Originally from Southeast Asia, it is affectionately known there as the "Queen of Fruits" due to its extraordinary taste.
Hidden beneath its firm, dark purple to maroon rind is snow-white, juicy flesh divided into several segments. Its taste is pleasantly sweet with a fine, refreshing acidity. The unique aroma is reminiscent of a delicious blend of lychee, peach, pineapple, and a hint of citrus.
Taste and special features
- Taste: Sweet, fruity, and slightly tangy with a particularly delicate aroma.
- Flesh: Snow-white, juicy, soft, and melt-in-the-mouth.
- Rind: Thick, leathery, and dark purple – not suitable for consumption.
- Seeds: Individual fruit segments may contain seeds, which should not be eaten.
How to enjoy mangosteen
Mangosteen tastes best fresh and plain. To get to the delicious flesh, carefully cut around the rind without damaging the inside. Then, you can pull the two halves of the rind apart and easily remove the white fruit segments.
Our tips for enjoyment:
- Enjoy plain: Best spooned directly from the rind while slightly chilled.
- Exotic fruit salad: Pairs wonderfully with mango, pineapple, kiwi, and other tropical fruits.
- Refine desserts: A delicious addition to yogurt, ice cream, or panna cotta.
- Refreshing smoothies: Adds a special exotic note to fruity drinks.
Storage
Mangosteen fruits should be consumed as fresh as possible. Store the fruits in a cool place and avoid long storage periods.
