Strawberry tree fruit spread / Beirabaga / Doce de medronho, 270g

A rare delicacy from southern Portugal: Beirabaga's strawberry tree fruit spread is made from the wild-growing, red-colored fruit of the strawberry tree – known for its sweet aroma, slightly prickly skin and fruity, seedy interior, which is deliberately processed in its entirety.

The fruit – also known as "Medronho" – comes from the family's own orchard and is processed according to a traditional monastery recipe that contains no gelling agents, preservatives, artificial flavorings, or colorings. Only ripe fruit and sugar or honey are used, just as was the custom centuries ago.

The result is an authentic, handmade fruit spread with a strong, natural flavor that goes exceptionally well on bread as well as with cheese or game dishes.

Beirabaga has received numerous awards for the high quality of its products – including many medals at national competitions for fruit spreads made from traditional Portuguese fruit.
