Heart cabbage , as pointed cabbage is affectionately called here in the Algarve ( "couve de coração" ), is a particularly mild and tender cabbage variety. Thanks to its delicate flavor and easy digestibility, it is extremely popular—especially for those following a healthy diet .

With only 20 calories per 100 grams, kale is ideal for a lean diet . It provides plenty of fiber , as well as valuable vitamins and minerals . Particularly noteworthy: the plant compound ascorbigen is converted into vitamin C during cooking.
