The fruit of the strawberry tree is sweet, red in color and has a slightly prickly surface. The inside of the fruit has small seeds that are not removed. The fruit spreads are made from fresh fruit from our own fruit farm.
The recipes were devised by monastery women at a time when gelling agents, preservatives, artificial flavors and colors were unthinkable. To this day they contain no colorings or preservatives and no flavor enhancers. Only ripe fruits and sugar/honey are used.
Over the last two decades, Beirabaga has won many medals and awards in various national competitions for products made from traditional Portuguese fruit.
