Somewhere in the middle of nowhere (N 38° 36’ 6” W 28° 1’ 9”), on the way from Portugal to America, in the middle of the North Atlantic, lies the biosphere reserve. That is where you will find it: the Azores island of São Jorge. Santa Catarina tuna is still caught there in the traditional way with a fishing rod using the "salto e vara" (pole and line) method. This is a very ecological fishing method to protect against overfishing and ensure sustainability, as it prevents bycatch.
