Quinta cultivation, fruit cultivation with heart according to ecological principles
What makes our fruits so special:
Mineral-rich clay soils and our unique geographical location, in an area free of any heavy industry, guarantee you some of the best quality in Europe. Low acidity due to the high degree of ripeness and thus above-average flavor make our fruit so popular.
Our fruit is not preserved. The skin is untreated.
Thanks to a wide variety of varieties, we are able to supply fresh fruit year-round. Depending on the variety, the citrus fruits ripen on the tree for up to one and a half years.
Our fruits are not produced for conventional trade, but are lovingly cultivated as a valuable food.
Our Quinta cultivation: natural, cultivated according to ecological principles, not to display any kind of "label." We are concerned with "health," primarily yours and ours, as well as that of the piece of "earth" entrusted to us. We consciously avoid high yields achieved through artificial fertilizers.
We still do a lot of manual work to maintain the Quinta, we fertilize with expensive organic fertilizers, we minimize pest infestation with biologically sound products and we reduce pest insects with wine vinegar traps.
In order to provide a home for birds and other beneficial insects, we have planted many thousands of trees that are native to this region but do not produce fruit.
A pond was also created to provide birds and insects with the water they need.
Some bee colonies enjoy this diversity and support us in our work.
We are therefore explicitly committed to the active preservation of this habitat. Our orange farm reflects our loving commitment to a respectful coexistence between people and nature.
Our sustainable irrigation system:
Our Quinta is located on the Arade, a dammed river that transports rainwater into the Arade reservoir.
We are supplied directly with this collected rainwater, so that our plantation is supplied with the most modern irrigation system, drip irrigation .
The Moors, who ruled the Algarve until 1242, constructed irrigation systems to utilize the fertile soils of the Arade Valley for orange cultivation. We have no deep wells, so the groundwater level is maintained.
Since arriving here at our Quinta, we have left approximately 5 hectares (50 thousand square meters) of land natural and uncultivated for nature and wildlife without any profitable production.
Respect for our Mother Earth should be considered a commitment undertaken with love and gratitude.
How nice if we all benefit from it.
Our Quinta team at the orange farm
For four decades now, we have been passionately engaged in producing good food. As a small, owner-operated company, we focus on growing healthy fruits and vegetables. By growing our own produce on our farm, we have a direct impact and know what we can send you.
Our employees are trained specialists who also complete annual training courses for further education.
Most of our employees have been with us for many years and are part of the company family.
The employees are responsible for picking and subpackaging our diverse product range. Our employees harvest the fruit from Quinta's cultivation and pack the large shipping crates.
In autumn/winter, the main season, this is the primary work.
In spring/summer, the trees are trimmed, weeds are mown, and new plantings are established and planted.
Irrigation is also a complex project. The pipes must be constantly checked and often repaired.
We are happy about our modern machines which make our sometimes physically very demanding work easier.
With over 100 varieties of fruit and vegetables that we grow ourselves, we always have plenty to do all year round.
In this way we create social stability for our employees.
