Vintage Port wine
Vintage Port wines are high-quality, long-lasting, and rare port wines produced only in exceptionally good years. They come from a single harvest (vintage) and are made from the best grapes of a single growing region. After fermentation, they mature for only two to three years in large wooden casks before being bottled unfiltered. This allows them to continue maturing in the bottle and develop complex aromas over time.
Vintage Port often needs decades to reach its full potential and develops a natural sediment during aging. Therefore, it should be decanted before drinking. Vintage Ports are rare and considered the pinnacle of Port wines. They are only declared by producers when the vintage in question is exceptional, and their production is limited to approximately three vintages per decade.
