Cut hibiscus flowers are ideal for a refreshing, fruity tea with a bright red color. This tea is also known as mallow tea or karkadeh tea, especially in North Africa, the Middle East, and the Caribbean.
Not every hibiscus variety is suitable for this tea—only the blossoms of Hibiscus sabdariffa provide the typical fruity, sour aroma. The malic, citric, and tartaric acids they contain give the tea its characteristic freshness and a natural, slightly bitter note.
Use:
Ideal for preparing fruit teas, iced teas, or for rounding off the flavor of herbal tea blends. It's also suitable as a natural coloring for drinks or desserts.
Preparation:
Pour boiling water over 1–2 teaspoons of hibiscus blossoms and let it steep for 8–10 minutes. Enjoy warm or cold.
